It was used throughout Europe in the 9th century AD up to the 12th century AD. They were some of the first helmets to be predominately all iron, and would eventually be made from single sheets of iron instead of segmented construction.

When were full face helmets invented?

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the production and sale in 1963 of the first ever full-face motorcycle helmet, designed and developed here in the U.S. by Bell Helmets. Back then motorcyclists (as well as drag, car and boat racers) were faced with limited choice in safety headgear.
