What are reasonable consequences for misbehavior?
Reasonable consequences are usually short term. Forbidding your child to watch his favorite TV show for a week because he flatly refused to lower the volume would be reasonable. Forbidding him to watch his show for the rest of the season would not be reasonable, it would be too severe.
What are the consequences of behavior?
Consequences are the positive or negative results of behavior. Experiencing the consequences of their behavior should allow your children the opportunity to think about what they did and how they can make amends. Teach your children that their behaviors have consequences.
What are examples of negative consequences?
Negative consequences include things like:
- ignoring.
- distraction (i.e. getting your child to focus on something else)
- natural consequences (e.g. your child is playing roughly with a toy and the toy breaks)
