Verbenas require a location that receives full sun throughout the day. They must have well-drained soil. They will not tolerate overcrowding with poor air circulation, shade or soil that stays overly moist. Most problems of verbenas occur in improper growing conditions.

How tall does verbena grow?

Verbenas can be low growing, trailing groundcovers that only grow 6 to 12 inches (15-31 cm.) tall or they can be upright plants reaching 6 feet (2 m.) tall. Generally, the annual verbena varieties grow 6 to 18 inches (15-45 cm.)

How do you identify verbena?

Verbena has squarish stems and may be confused with the Mints until you examine the flowers. The flowers are mostly bisexual and slightly irregular. They bloom in elongated spikes. There are typically 5 united sepals and 5 united petals, forming a tube with unequal lobes.
