Twitter has lost another leader, as Alex MacGillivray step down from his position as General Counsel. The head of the defense team, the position of Twitter, which will now be taken over by Vijaya Gadde, former director of corporate affairs.
MacGillivray announced on personal blog decision to step down from the post, but said he would continue to work for Twitter in an advisory role.
“I’m looking forward to engaging my various Internet passions from new and different perspectives, seeing friends and family without distraction, and just goofing off a bit. We should all do more of that,” he wrote.
MacGillivray has previously worked for Google, and won praises from civil libertarians to advocate for the rights of users and often took a stand for them against government officials.
He managed to fight a court order from 2011 that the company paid to the real names of the supporters of Wikileaks.
