Keen Facebook users will be interested about hearing about the newest Facebook cover maker application on the market, Make a Cover for Facebook.
Whereas competing Facebook cover makers focus on providing a proper design editor (which in this authors view is of questionable value when most computers have access to a proper Paint application) Make a Cover for Facebook focuses on providing a cartoon based Facebook cover.
Now, making Facebook Covers with an online tool isn’t anything new – nor is the concept of creating a digital character for oneself – but the combination Facebook covers and a digital character of you is.
Upon first visiting the cover website you’ll need to choose a character that you most identify with – perhaps a superhero, penguin (perhaps you just find this character cute?!) or just a regular girl. With that selected character you then cherry-pick your favorite clothing and decorations – well, not necessarily your favorite the combination that you’d like to have on your Facebook cover.

Above shows the characters that Make a Cover facilitates at the time of writing.
At its core ‘Make a Cover for Facebook’ is designed to build a character themed medley from your selections. It’s definitely not an alternative to Adobe’s Photoshop, it’s just something different.

There are three main segments that make up this cover making app – a design panel on the left hand side, the Facebook cover preview window which takes up the main part of the screen and the download buttons on the far right that enable you to import your designed Facebook cover directly into your profile or download to your computer.
Customization’s for this cover maker app are presented and grouped in categories on the left hand side – this perhaps isn’t as intuitive as it could be, but nevertheless it serves its purpose. So to illustrate the point, the hair style customization group shows a type of hair – the mouth options shows a mouth etc.
Once you’ve made a ‘category’ choice, you then choose from the selections available – on any of the options within the category the character in your Facebook cover preview window automatically updates – as such, you can preview in real time the effects of your changes and so you are able to experiment with your design before setting it as your Facebook cover.

Above you can see that I’ve entered the area to customize hair styles and have changed the characters hair style. The Facebook cover updated automatically.

Above you can see that I’m changing the Facebook Cover characters smile – I’ve selected something that shows his teeth. Once I selected the smile on the left hand side the cover design updated automatically.
All in all, Make a Cover for Facebook is a very intuitive online application but I would have liked to have more of a creative input at a larger stage – for example, the ability to add graphical text such as my name on the character would have been nice.
At any point in the design process I was able to download the cover image or make it my Facebook cover – which is nice as it doesn’t limit my ability to download my image creations.
