Last year saw many minor and major updates in Google algorithm. The two updates, Panda a few months back and Penguin recently changed the way people used to observe search engine optimization.
While many sites (including many big and authority sites) were slapped with fall in search engine position for a specific keyword, some minor updates also bumped crap results on top in search results. This said, Google was fast and smart enough to overcome this problem sooner with a newer update. While most of the webmasters are still trying to find their way around penguins and pandas (and their off-springs), a few have already formulated their strategies to gun them down. In the following piece of content I am going to share three strategies that will surely help you maintain your position and also help you increase your authority on Google.
Variety In Your Anchor Tag
For several years Google has been using just one simple trick to rank websites. It used to rank a website for a specific keyword depending on how many backlinks the site had on the internet for a specific keyword. It later added the concept of no-follow to stop people from spamming. But honestly all this was not enough. So Google came up with a new strategy: Now Google checks the number of links for every specific anchor tag that a site uses in its back-links. Concentration of a specific anchor tag now raises a flag for Google and it is considered as spamming by the search engine. So, the first and foremost strategy is to vary your anchor tags in your link building efforts. Eventually you will end up ranking for a different variety of keywords while still maintaining your position for the main keyword.
Watch Your Neighborhood
For some reason, Google has decided to rank a website depending on the websites where it is getting links from. Although this is not as new as it may sound (remember the concept of quality and links from related websites), but now when Google sees your website link on a website that is considered as a bad site, it decreases your authority too. For example, if you made backlinks on an article directory and Google punishes the directory for low-quality content, it will punish your site too (bad neighborhood effect). Likewise, if you link to a website that is considered as a spam filled site by Google, you again lose your authority.
Indulge in Social Media
Although it will not affect your ranking much, but it will help you in diversifying your links. Shares, tweets, pins and likes will make your SEO efforts look natural to google rather than forced. It will create an image in Google that your site is being loved by people and hence being shared.
These are just a few tips that would help you in maintaining your rank. You need to experiment and find out what works for you and where you need to improve. But one thing that you do need to concentrate the most is on: VARIATION IN ANCHOR TAGS.

Thank you for the post. My blog actually got affected by Google panda time time and its ranking had gone really very below.
if your blog is affected by panda, you need to remove all kinds of stuffings, from backlinks creation to on page. and then try to show google that you are creating a brand and not just spamming the web. if you follow google guidlines, internet is much fun to work. thanks.
