You believe everything you read or hear. And for those who are new to the SEO world, tread lightly on the information you gather on the subject of SEO. Here are 6 common mistakes when it comes to SEO, take note and avoid:
Myth 1: One has to Submit to Search Engines
This is a popular misconception to those new to SEO, don’t fall into this myth. You do not have to submit or pay to submit your sites because Google and other search engines will find it.
Myth 2: Meta Keywords Matter
Overloading your site with meta keywords will not get you to the top because Google ranking doesn’t even consider meta keywords when calculating rankings. So no need to attack your site with meta keywords.
Myth 3: SEO and PPC are the same
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is taking a site and using keywords and searchable information to bring you hire up on the search engine page. Pay Per Click (PPC) costs you money. You pay for keywords on a bidding system, when someone clicks on your link, you pay. This can help in growing your internet traffic but can get costly. These are two very different things; never assume they are the same.
Myth 4: Ranking is everything
Before you get carried away with rankings you need to realize that the number doesn’t mean everything. It’s about quality and quantity right? You want to focus on bringing in customers and business. Just because you rank well, doesn’t mean your business is well. So change your thought pattern and focus on gaining customers.
Myth 5: Get a Facebook Page
As much as Facebook wants you to think that they are the new President, you don’t always need a Facebook fan page. First and foremost you should concentrate on the SEO part before wasting time on a Facebook fan page. If you company can benefit from it, use it, but start later.
Myth 6: Say goodbye to SEO
SEO is dying. Lies! As long there are search engines and sites being built we will always use SEO methods. Of course not everyone needs it, but for those who aren’t giant brand moguls, SEO is here to stay.
